There have been several edits and reversions around the use of the term "ultra-processed foods" in the intro paragraph. The WP article on this topic notes that there is no consistent definition of ultra-processed foods. It is not a technical or scientific term, but it usually means foods created by the mixture of many raw ingredients, especially sugars and salt. Using the Nova classification, General Mills sells products from at least 3 of the 4 defined food categories, including but importantly not limited to "ultra processed" foods. Since they do sell foods that are not ultra processed, NPOV and accuracy would seem to require stating that the company sells a range of foods, not just ultra processed foods. The original edit here was tagged as being for "consumer information" I believe, but WP is an encyclopedia, not a consumer information or advocacy site. Note that I am not a food scientist or involved in the food industry (other that as one who consumes food). It seems fine to note that some (many?) of the company's products are ultra-processed, but it is not accurate to ID the company only as a manufacture of ultra-processed food. It is, but that's not a complete description. I believe indicating a broader range of products makes the lead paragraph more informative to the casual reader while preserving the information added that (some of) their products are, in fact, ultra processed by conventional definitions. The edit I refer to above is "14:54, October 16, 2024 (Clarity for consumers regarding the processing of their food products)." GeoGreg (talk) 00:22, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
